Privacy Policy — Blocks Beyond the Stars

Last updated: 10 July 2026

1. Controller
The controller responsible for data processing on this website and in connection with the game "Blocks Beyond the Stars" is:

Marcel Dütscher] (JuMaVe Games)
Bresslauer Str. 20
54295 Trier
Germany

Email: info@blocksbeyondthestars.de

For further details, see our Imprint.

2. Overview and principles
"Blocks Beyond the Stars" is a free, open-source family project. We process as little personal data as possible (data minimisation, Art. 5(1)(c) GDPR). In particular:

Singleplayer and LAN mode work entirely locally. No data is transmitted to us (except when you actively submit feedback, see Section 6).
For online accounts ("Official Worlds") we deliberately store no email address and use no tracking (see Section 8).

3. Your rights
You have the following rights regarding your personal data: access (Art. 15), rectification (Art. 16), erasure (Art. 17), restriction of processing (Art. 18), data portability (Art. 20), objection (Art. 21) and withdrawal of consent with effect for the future (Art. 7(3) GDPR). An informal message to info@blocksbeyondthestars.de is sufficient. You also have the right to lodge a complaint with a data protection supervisory authority (Art. 77 GDPR).

4. Website hosting
This website is hosted by Wix.com Ltd. (40 Namal Tel Aviv St., Tel Aviv, Israel; with EU representation). When you access the site, Wix as our processor collects technically necessary data (IP address, date and time, pages/files requested, referrer URL, browser and operating system) in server log files to deliver the site securely and reliably (legal basis: Art. 6(1)(f) GDPR — legitimate interest). An EU adequacy decision exists for Israel, and a data processing agreement is in place with Wix. See Wix's privacy policy: https://www.wix.com/about/privacy

5. Cookies
Through Wix, the site uses technically necessary cookies required to operate the site (legal basis: Art. 6(1)(f) GDPR / § 25(2) TDDDG). Any non-essential cookies (e.g. statistics or embedded content) are only set with your consent (Art. 6(1)(a) GDPR, § 25(1) TDDDG), which you can withdraw at any time. You can also manage or delete cookies in your browser settings.

6. Error reports and feedback from the game
In the game you can voluntarily send us feedback (a bug report or a wish) using the F1 key. Only if you actively submit it, the following data is transmitted to and stored by our website endpoint:

the title and description you entered,
an optional email address (only if you provide it, so we can reply),
a screenshot of the game at the time of the report,
technical game data (chosen player name, game version, position, savegame metrics).
The sole purpose is to analyse and fix bugs and to handle suggestions. Legal basis is your consent (Art. 6(1)(a) GDPR), given by submitting. Please do not include sensitive personal data in the description. The data is stored in a database of our website provider (Wix) and deleted once it is no longer needed.

7. Automatic crash reports (optional)
After a crash, the game client can send technical diagnostic data. This feature is opt-in — active only if you explicitly agree. Technical error data (e.g. error message, game version, affected component) is then transmitted to fix crashes faster. Legal basis: consent (Art. 6(1)(a) GDPR). You can disable it in the settings at any time.

8. Online multiplayer / accounts ("Official Worlds")
For the optional online multiplayer service at play.blocksbeyondthestars.de you may create an account. We process data deliberately sparingly: a freely chosen name and a password stored only as a cryptographic hash (PBKDF2) — your plaintext password is never stored. We require no email address, use no tracking and embed no third-party fonts or scripts. IP addresses are processed only transiently for abuse prevention (rate limiting) and in server logs. Legal basis: performance of a contract (Art. 6(1)(b) GDPR) and legitimate interest in security (Art. 6(1)(f) GDPR). Reports you file under the community rules are stored for moderation. You can delete your account — including all associated worlds and reports — at any time (Art. 17 GDPR). The service's separate notice is at https://play.blocksbeyondthestars.de/datenschutz

9. Contacting us
If you contact us by email (info@blocksbeyondthestars.de), we process your details to handle your request (legal basis: Art. 6(1)(f) GDPR, or Art. 6(1)(b) for contract-related requests). The data is deleted once your request has been fully handled, unless statutory retention periods apply.

10. Embedded third-party content and external links
Some pages embed videos from YouTube (Google Ireland Ltd.). Playing them may transmit data to YouTube; see https://policies.google.com/privacy**]**

Our website also links to external services (e.g. GitHub, itch.io, YouTube). Their data processing is governed solely by their own privacy policies, over which we have no influence.

11. Children
The game is expressly intended for families and younger players. This is precisely why our service is designed to be data-minimal (no mandatory email, no tracking). We ask parents and guardians to accompany their children and to ensure that no personal data is entered in feedback reports.

12. Retention
We store personal data only as long as necessary for the stated purposes or as required by statutory retention periods, after which it is deleted.

13. Changes to this privacy policy
We update this privacy policy whenever our data processing changes. The current version published on this page applies.
