Version 2026.9.12 – The paintbox update: paint every texture, build forms over several blocks 🎨🧱
September 20, 2026
This time you get the brush. 🎨 There are three new editors in the main menu: the Texture Editor repaints every texture in the game, the Form Editor builds forms of your own – now across several blocks – and under My Tools you give your drill, pistol, blade and scanner a look of their own. The best part: whatever you make is yours straight away, on any installation, without waiting for an update. In the world itself nothing changes – the shaping tool, its little editor and dyeing work exactly as before.
The Texture Editor knows every block, every piece of furniture, plants, animals, the ground, the avatars – and even the little pictures your items have in the backpack. It lists what your game really contains; nothing has to be downloaded. Pencil, fill, lines, mirror, undo, and a preview that puts your texture on a turning cube, on the real shape of the thing (both halves of a bed, for instance) or on crossed plant cards. One click on "Use it for me" and the world repaints itself while you watch, no reload needed. 🖌️ A single texture travels as a share code, or you export the whole thing as a folder. Doors, factory machines and the station terminal can finally be painted too, and textures are allowed to move: up to eight frames, for water, fire or a blinking lamp. (The game plays them – nobody has painted one yet, that is art, not code. 😉) One rule stays hard: a block texture can never become see-through, not in the editor and not through a server – nobody paints themselves an X-ray view of the ground.
The Form Editor gives you a big canvas per layer, undo, mirror, copy-the-layer-below, fill – and at last a library that shows all of your forms, with duplicate and delete. What is new is that a form may fill several blocks: up to 3×3×3 and eight cells. A table, an archway, a statue – built as one piece, placed as one piece. It turns with you but never tips over, it costs one block of material per cell and gives all of them back, and if anything takes a single cell away – mining beam, fire, water, sand, a bomb – the whole form goes at once instead of leaving a stump behind. 🧱 The preview material now comes from a searchable list with a picture in front of every name, instead of clicking ◀ ▶ through thirty-one entries.
Under My Tools you paint on a small three-dimensional canvas with fifteen colours, and any colour may glow. ✨ The look belongs to you, not to the tool: everyone in the world sees it in your hand, and if you pass the tool on, the other player sees their own look again. Reach, damage and speed never change. And if you run a world: admins can publish textures into it. 🌍 Everybody playing there gets them at once and sees them again on every visit – a themed server may finally look like its theme. Inside that world the world texture wins over your own pack, but every player can switch world textures off if they do not like what they see. /reporttexture <name> flags an unpleasant texture, /texturewipe <name | player | all> lets an admin tidy up, and the world options have a new entry: "World textures: Admins / Off".
And if you are really proud of something, there is a button: "Submit to the developers". 📮 You confirm three tick-boxes first – that you painted it yourself, that we may put it in the game, and that we may credit you. What travels with it is a nickname you choose: no name, no e-mail address, no location, nothing about your computer. What we do not use is deleted after twelve months – and if your texture makes it into the game, that nickname is what goes into the credits. All of it comes in all 14 languages, together with the manual, the parents' guide and the privacy page. The network protocol stays at 6, your saves stay as they are, and everything you paint lives in your own game folder – an update never paints over it. Have fun painting! 🎨
