Version 2026.9.8 – The horizon update: a world behind the fog 🌄✨
September 13, 2026
Until yesterday a planet ended where the loaded chunks ended: a few hundred blocks out, then a wall of fog, and nothing behind it. Now there is a world behind the fog. 🌄 Mountains, valleys, coasts and seas are drawn all the way to the horizon — from the same generator as the real chunks, column for column exactly what will be there when you arrive. Nothing pops, nothing shifts as you get closer. And on that far landscape stands what you built there: the city wall, a village roof, last week's tower. 🏰 The new Far view setting under Graphics has Off, 512 or 1024 blocks (desktop starts at 1024, browser and tablet at 512), and the haze no longer closes in at the chunk edge but far out at the back — thin on thin-air worlds, denser where the air is dense; airless worlds stay razor-sharp. On top of that the view distance slider goes to 16 chunks (desktop now starts at 8), and the view is a disc instead of a square — nobody ever saw the corners, but they were loaded all the same.
To keep all that from turning sluggish we rebuilt the whole loading chain. ⚡ Chunks are now generated on worker threads of their own, in singleplayer too; what is near you loads and builds first, then whatever lies in the direction you are looking and flying — the ground ahead of a fast ship is there when you land on it. The browser no longer stutters while loading, because building and collision take only a few milliseconds per frame now (the ground under your feet always comes first). And when you stand underground or under a roof, only the chunks that could actually be seen from there are drawn; the rest keep casting their shadows. 🕳️
Villages are now built from modules. 🏘️ A building from the Town editor is either a whole settlement as before or a module: a house, a market, a notice board, a greenhouse for hamlets, villages and towns — or a whole district for the G.D.S. city. The generator mixes your modules in among its own houses (the Town templates world option says how often; two examples ship with the game: a timber cottage for villages and a two-storey iron flat for towns). And every room gets furniture: bed, table and chair, crate, plant, light, market counter or terminal, along the walls, with the door and the ladder kept clear — wood and stone with torches in a village, steel with lights in a town, iron with data caches in alien ruins. Your existing villages get the furniture on the next start; their layout stays exactly as it is. 🪑
From your reports: Justus sent eight in one evening, Lyxette four — thank you both! 🙏 The mining glow no longer vanishes far from the ship. The Guardian core cannot be dug away any more (the shell around it still can). Loading a save on the core body gives you the hint and the shaft mark anyway, and there is no "Craft an item" inside the core. Docking no longer puts you on the airless roof. Ruin pillars and runes place as shapes again, saplings grow on stations, and the false "station is no longer airtight" in a doorway or in the pond is gone. Two-block doorways — third time, this one with the lintel in the next column. No fall damage while flying, and standing on lava tells you so. 🌋 ⚠️ The network protocol moves to 6: older game versions cannot join a new server any more — the desktop game updates itself on start, the browser is always current. Saves stay as they are, and the far view works in every world you already have. Have fun! ✨
